East the Beasts
Three puzzles to start, easy, medium, and hard. Hit New puzzle on any of them for another one at the same difficulty, generated right in your browser, or print one to solve on paper. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, generated and checked, not just filled in by hand.
Rules
Sudoku is played on a 9 by 9 grid, split into nine 3 by 3 boxes. Fill every row, every column, and every box with the numbers 1 through 9, each number appearing exactly once in each of the three. A puzzle starts with some cells already filled in, the givens, and a correctly made puzzle has exactly one solution.
Strategy
Pick a number, then check each box, row, and column to see where it can and cannot go, based on where it already appears nearby.
If a cell has only one number left once you eliminate everything already used in its row, column, and box, that is the answer for that cell.
A number might fit more than one empty cell in a box by elimination alone, but if only one of those cells can hold it once its row and column are considered too, that cell is a hidden single.
If a number can only go in cells within a single row or column inside one box, it cannot appear anywhere else in that row or column outside the box, which lets you eliminate it elsewhere.
Boxes, rows, and columns with the most givens have the fewest candidates left to consider, so they usually crack first.
Generate, print, or solve
New puzzle generates a fresh one at the same difficulty, right in your browser, with the same uniqueness check the original three passed. Print prints only that one grid, not the whole page.
